A Message from the Superintendent (1/31/2014) 

This past week, we faced unpredicted snow and ice that virtually paralyzed our community. Most of the city came to a standstill, and those who could move found themselves trekking for hours distances that would normally take minutes.

.. a city-wide celebration of reading that provides thousands of books to students each year

 
Carver High School to establish the school's first Heritage Panel

On January 13-14, 25 students and four educators from Carver High School received training from the YWCA to establish the school's first Heritage Panel. 
 

Huffman High Student wins 2nd Place and

.. a $500 award in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., essay contest

Like our second President John Adams who said, "Facts are stubborn things," Birmingham City Schools' want to communicate the facts and take every opportunity to address some of the rumors we've heard. That said ... 

  
to witness what many are calling a new era for Birmingham City Schools. Notable of the many speakers was student from Lewis Elementary.  The fifth-grade student, Israel Torres, led the charge for the event.  He pleaded with the new board saying, "We're counting on you for your leadership.

As we pursue new, innovative and challenging endeavors to increase academic achievement, we encourage you to become informed, engaged and support our efforts.
