A Message from the Superintendent (1/10/2014) 

2014 will be an exciting year for Birmingham City Schools. We are making progress on many fronts. This includes continuing our efforts to expand academies in our high schools. Several of our schools are piloting hand-held technology devices for students.  We are continuing to explore possibilities for other programs for the school system

..to industries in an unprecented way.  Throughout the months of October and November, Health Sciences Career Academy students from Carver and Jackson-Olin High Schools visited University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB ..

The Huffman High School Academy of Architecture and Construction sponsored a school wide toy drive for the patients at Children's Hospital of Alabama

to witness what many are calling a new era for Birmingham City Schools. Notable of the many speakers was student from Lewis Elementary.  The fifth-grade student, Israel Torres, led the charge for the event.  He pleaded with the new board saying, "We're counting on you for your leadership.
