25 years of Camp Birmingham
This year marks the 25th year of Camp Birmingham, the summer enrichment program for students of Birmingham City Schools. Funded by the City of Birmingham and operated through the community schools, the summer program includes academic enrichment, academic bowls, arts and crafts, technology and field trips. Hundreds of students take part in Camp Birmingham at five sites across the city. On Tuesday, students participated in the annual Camp Birmingham "Olympics" at Parker High School. Prior to the event, campers gathered in the gym, representing the five sites, full of enthusiasm and energy. The students competed in basketball, sack races, three-legged races, dance, standing long jump and other track and field events. The day was full of food and fun! We are appreciative of the work of the community school leaders and Camp Birmingham staff on behalf of the students that greatly benefit from these summer experiences. Sincerely, Craig Witherspoon Superintendent Birmingham City Schools |
