Events showcase students
Fall is an exciting time for many reasons, especially when it comes to activities that showcase the talents and accomplishments of students in the Birmingham City Schools. As we finish October and enter November, there are numerous things that parents and other stakeholders can attend to see what is happening in our schools.
Some of the highlights are:
- The Birmingham City Schools All City Marching Band Festival is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Carver High School stadium. Bands and auxiliary units from each of the district's seven high schools will perform in the event. The bands, percussion sections, dance line, color guard units and majorettes all will be receive ratings of superior, excellent or fair.
- JROTC units will be participating in the color guard, drill team and academic challenge competition that is part of the city's Veterans' Day observance. The competition begins at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Boutwell Auditorium.
- All JROTC units from the district's seven high schools and several of our marching bands will march in the Veterans' Day parade, which begins at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in downtown Birmingham.
- All schools will participate in our district-wide open house during school hours Wednesday, Nov. 14. Schools will have special activities that day to show participants the kinds of things that are happening in our schools.
- Hundreds of students from schools across the district will perform in the 73rd annual All City Christmas Music Festival, which begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Boutwell Auditorium. This year's theme is "There's Christmas in the Air." Admission is free.
Those are just some of the district-wide events. As the holidays approach, every school will have programs that show what beautiful and talented children we have the privilege to educate.
Sincerely,
Craig Witherspoon Superintendent Birmingham City Schools |
