Hi Everyone,
In this special issue, we would like to introduce all the new surveyors that were sworn in since the 2012 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and who received their certificates as members of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors at the 2013 AGM in Toronto.

Marc Baila
|

After obtaining his bachelor's degree in Automation and Computer Science at the University of Sibiu, Romania in 1993, Mircea (Marc) worked as a GIS Specialist in Romania until 2002 when he emigrated to Canada.
In 2004, Mircea began the process of becoming an Ontario Land Surveyor. He completed a number of courses at Ryerson University and began articles in 2008, obtaining his OLS in January 2013.
Mircea continues to work at Town of Oakville as a business analyst.

Zachary Fiddes

Zach graduated from Ryerson University in 2005 with a degree in Civil Engineering/Geomatics. He began working at Clipsham Limited where he became Project Manager for the surveying and engineering department in 2007. Zach finished his exams in November 2012 and was commissioned in January 2013. He continues to work as Project Manager for Clipsham Limited in Georgetown.

Ali Gholami

In 1996, after graduating from the University of Tehran in Geomatics Engineering, Ali worked as a land surveyor for 8 years with a variety of land surveying companies in Tehran. Ali decided to expand his horizons and emigrated to Canada in 2006, where he started as a Party Chief for Bennett Young Ltd.
Ali completed required surveying courses at Ryerson and York Universities and began his articles with Bill Bennett. He completed his articles with R. D. Tomlinson and was commissioned in July 2012. He is currently working as a Project Surveyor at MRM Surveying Ltd. in King City.

Yahui Hu

After graduating from the Engineering Program of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at Wuhan University of Surveying and Mapping of China in 1984, Yahui worked as an Associate Engineer at the Aerial Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Bureau in China and also taught surveying courses at Xi'an College of Geology.
In 1995, he obtained his post graduate degree from the Natural Resources Development and Management Program at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. He emigrated to Canada in 1999 and worked as a GIS Technologist at Northway-Photomap Inc., Toronto.
Yahui formally started as an articling student at Donevan Fleischmann Petrich Ltd. in 2008. With great support from his articling surveyors, Michael A. Griffiths and Fred Petrich, and monitor David Lamont, he obtained his OLS commission on January 14, 2013. Yahui continues to work as a project surveyor at Donevan Fleischmann Petrich Ltd.

Tom Jones

Tom graduated from Algonquin College's Survey Technology Program in 1989. In 1996, he started with McIntosh Perry Consulting Engineers and in 2005, the chance arose for Tom to manage the newly formed McIntosh Perry Surveying Incorporated.
While continuing to work full-time, Tom pursued his studies with the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors and received his Certificate of Completion in 2009. He earned his Commission from the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors in 2011 and from the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors in March 2012.
Tom continues to manage McIntosh Perry Surveying Incorporated and is an owner and Director in the McIntosh Perry Group.

Rafal Kazcmarek

Rafal was part of the first graduating class from the Geomatics Engineering Program at York University in the spring of 2005. After completing his post-secondary education, he began his survey career as a survey assistant for AGM Surveying and Engineering in London. In 2008, after spending two years with AGM, Rafal decided to join two of his York classmates at J.D. Barnes Limited in Markham where he articled to Joseph Young.
Rafal completed his articles on November 27, 2012 after a long but enjoyable ride with great support from his articling surveyor Joseph Young and monitor Rodger Reid. Rafal was commissioned in January 2013 and is currently working as a Project Surveyor for J.D. Barnes Limited in Thunder Bay.

Jayson F. Ladines

Jayson started his undergraduate studies in 1999 at the University of the Philippines, Diliman Campus. He took the 5 year engineering program and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering.
Jayson's family immigrated to Canada in the fall of 2005 and settled in Toronto. Jayson started to work as a survey assistant in the winter of the same year with Sexton McKay Limited and worked there for six months. He then moved to J.D. Barnes Limited in August 2006 to pursue further studies and a career.
After completing several courses at Ryerson University, Jayson articled to Joseph Young in September 2009. During the next 3 years, Jayson completed his remaining university courses, and passed his professional exams in November 2012.
Jayson was commissioned in January 2013 and is currently working as a Project Surveyor in the Geodetic and Engineering division of J.D. Barnes Limited in Markham.

Goran Lale

Goran Lale is a graduate from the University of Yugoslav Army - Department of Geodesy (Belgrade, Yugoslavia), where he acquired a degree in Geodetic Sciences in 1993. He worked in the geomatics industry in Yugoslavia until moving to Canada in 2002.
Goran joined P. Salna Co., Ltd and worked there from 2002 to 2008. In 2007, Goran successfully completed requisite courses at Ryerson University and York University and commenced his articles.
Goran worked for Ivan B. Wallace O.L.S., Ltd and Coutts & Flim Surveying Inc., O.L.S. He then continued his professional development and completed his articles with Donevan Fleischmann Petrich Ltd., O.L.S, where he works today as a Project Surveyor.
On June 6, 2012, Goran Lale was proudly sworn in as an Ontario Land Surveyor.

Jansky Lau

Jansky graduated from Ryerson University with a Civil Engineering, Geomatics degree in 2006. During his years studying, he had a part time position as an assistant to David Churchmuch, OLS, employed by the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors to do field reviews of surveys for the Survey Review Department. It was during this time working with David that Jansky decided to become an Ontario Land Surveyor.
For 3 years following his graduation from Ryerson, Jansky was employed by R. Avis Surveying Ltd. During these years, Jansky articled under George Lo, OLS, and learned a lot about Condominiums and the processes necessary to bring a project to registration.
Jansky completed his articles with Ivan B. Wallace Ontario Land Surveyor Ltd. under the supervision of David Comery, OLS. After receiving his licence, Jansky joined the firm of Ertl Surveyors in Richmond Hill where he is now a project manager.

Jim Nicol

Jim graduated from the Environmental Engineering Technologist Program at Georgian College in Barrie in 1998. He started surveying in 2000 with ACT Field Services and later with H.L. Mellish Surveying Ltd. Enjoying the surveying business, Jim enrolled in the Geomatics program at Ryerson University where he graduated in 2009.
After completing the required Survey Law Courses provided by York University, Jim started his articles with Herb Mellish OLS in Penetanguishene in August of 2009. In December of 2010, Jim went to work for MTE Ontario Land Surveyors Ltd. where he transferred his articles to Trevor McNeil OLS.
Jim completed his articles in November of 2012 and was commissioned as an Ontario Land Surveyor on the 14th of January 2013. He is currently working as an Ontario Land Surveyor in Stratford with MTE Ontario Land Surveyors.

Kevin Smith

Kevin began his academic career by completing a Bachelor of Science degree at Waterloo University in 1995. This was followed by some courses in AutoCad and basic surveying at St. Lawrence College in Kingston and at BCIT in Burnaby, after which he went to the east coast and completed a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Geodesy and Geomatics, with cadastral option, at the University of New Brunswick, receiving several awards and scholarships at UNB.
Kevin received his commission as a Canada Lands Surveyor in 2009 and also articled that year to his father, Ron Smith. Kevin signed his Oath of Office in February 2013 and he is the Vice-President of Operations at Ronald H. Smith Ltd. in Kingston.

Dave Tulloch

In June of 2012, Dave Tulloch became the third member of the Tulloch family to be commissioned as an Ontario Land Surveyor (father Mike and brother Mark).
A Thessalon, Ontario native, Dave has had a busy three years since he graduated from Ryerson's Civil Engineering Program (Geomatics Option) with Honours in the spring of 2009. At that time, he moved to Sudbury to work in the Tulloch Geomatics office and signed articles to become an OLS in the fall of 2009. At the same time, he also began studies at Laurentian University towards a Master's Degree in Business Administration, which he successfully completed, graduating in the fall of 2011. Dave completed all the requirements for his OLS in May 2012. During this time, he and his wife Lindsay welcomed their first born, a son named Callum.
Dave would like to express his deep gratitude to the following individuals who have been instrumental to the successful completion of his articles, namely monitor Gary Phillips, OLS (PWGSC, Real Property Geomatics Services) and mentors Anne Cole, OLS (Tulloch Geomatics), Terry Del Bosco, OLS (Tulloch Geomatics), and Steve Davidson, OLS.
