CHECK PLATE HEIGHT ON NEW PROMATIC MACHINES

On the new Promatic machines check the plate height as your machine breaks in and once it is seated with the temperature changes you should hit a balance point for maximum performance.

Promatic Transport Mode & Spring Change Procedure on RH Trap

  1. Standing behind the trap, disarm trap using the disarm switch.
  2. Bump the disarm switch until the gearbox cocking lever is in the 11:00 or 12:00 position (looking at it from the back of trap over the top side of the carousel).
  3. While still standing at the rear of the trap, pull the arm with your left hand towards the center of the trap. You should feel the arm go over center and spring pressure should be felt on the arm as the main shaft presses against the gearbox cocking lever.
  4. If you do not feel the spring tension, force the main shaft against the gearbox cocking lever, bump the disarm switch lightly, and push the arm in again.

DARRAN IDE - SERVICE TECH EXTRAORDINAIRE

SERVICING YOUR RANGER GEARBOX

Servicing you gear box once a year can add years to its life. On the Ranger style EMD boxes remove the cocking lever and rotate it a couple teeth once a year so it will not be engaging the same teeth. Remove the drain plug on the large gear box and drain and refill the oil.

MAC MCGREGOR - ELECTRONICS MANAGER

You can check your complete electrical system with the use of a volt ohm meter at the machine connection.

ROLLER SWITCH

Before checking continuity, be sure the roller lever operates freely and the wheel mounting is secure and not worn.

  1. Connect the negative cable from the trap to the negative side of good 12v DC battery.
  2. Disconnect the positive cable from the trap from the battery.
  3. Select the Ohm scale on the Digital Volt Meter.
  4. Secure the negative lead on the Digital Volt Meter to the "L" (ground) terminal on the Duraplug or pin #2 on the 4 pin connector.
  5. Secure the positive side of test leads to the "N" (trigger) terminal on the Duraplug or pin #3 on the 4 pin connector.
  6. Manually rotate the Roller Switch from side to side. This should open and close the circuit. When the switch is straight out (rest position) the switch will measure closed on the meter.
GOOD GROUND CONNECTIONS

Connect the negative side of trap to the negative side of the battery.

Disconnect the positive side of trap from battery.

Connect the negative side of the Digital Volt/Ohm Meter to the negative side of the battery.

Select the Ohm scale on the Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (measures continuity and impedance).

Measure a closed circuit from the "L" terminal on the female Duraplug or pin # 2 if you have a 4 pin circular connector, to the negative side of the battery. If you do not read a dead short, suspect a bad battery clamp or a bad connection in the electric box.

Measure from the "L" terminal on the female Duraplug or the #2 Pin on the 4 pin connector to the negative side of the cocking motor. This should measure continuity on the Volt/Ohm Meter as well. If not, check ground connections in the electric box. The ground connection is normally a 10mm bolt through the box with many ring terminals / green wires.
