Touching Heaven, Changing Earth...
|
Many of us are still singing the songs from Borderless, the Starfire show that had its world premiere at LAUMC in Creekside this past weekend. This original musical, written by Dirk and Carol Damonte, was based on the book Five Practices of Fruitful Living, by Bishop Robert Schnase. The show certainly challenged me with an amazing, powerful (and technologically creative) message of living more fully into the life God has created for us.
I was blessed to have been able to hear the songs in rehearsals as well as in performance. I was also able to study the script to really glean from its most excellent text. Even still, I want to experience the show again, because each time I hear the music, I gain new understandings. And to be honest, I just enjoy hearing my favorite singers singing. How fortunate that we have many more opportunities to experience Borderless in the next two weeks as Starfire is on tour with the show. See below for details about how to follow the group on tour and see live-streamed performances.
In addition to many of our congregation who were in attendance, we also had some special guests. It was great that some of our beloved previous pastors and spouses were able to attend: the Rev. Dr. Mark and Bonnie Bollwinkel and the Rev. John and Vicky Dodson. As well, what an honor it was to have the author of the Five Practices book attend the very first performance. Bishop Robert Schnase, the bishop of the Missouri Conference, flew to California for the sole purpose of seeing this show. He was awed and honored by the writers/composers, by the singers, and by our church that supports this ministry.

Please keep our 63 youth and 20 adult team members of the Starfire Singers Rocky Mountain Tour in your prayers as they present and represent the love of God out into the world! And let's keep singing the message of Borderless with our lives.
Blessings,

This Sunday we start our new summer morning worship series, "The Big Questions." Pastor Sam Lewis will give the message at all three morning services on "What's the Point of Living?" Her text is Ecclesiastes 1:2, 12-14, 2:18-23. At the 5:00pm Creekside Crossings service, Pastor Sam will preach again, this time with the message "Get Comfy," from Jeremiah 29:4-14. All are welcome!
