Blood Cries Out
by Bishop Gregory Palmer

Beloved in Christ Jesus: Across the last ten days I have wondered if we have been condemned to an endless cycle of violence or to awaken every morning not from a nightmare but to a new nightmare of gun violence, bombings, carnage and death. The short litany: Istanbul, Bangladesh, St. Paul, Baton Rouge, Dallas. God knows we had not recovered from the insanity of Orlando. Behind every one of these tragedies are real human beings, body and soul. They have names, stories and families to whom they did not return one night or one morning. Kyrie eleison.

In Genesis 4:10 we find these words "And the Lord said, 'What have you done? Listen; your brother's blood is crying out to me from the ground!'" Surely we can hear the blood of our sisters and brothers crying out from the ground now, can't we? ...  Read more.

Worship on July 17
8:00, 9:30, 11:15am, and 5:00pm

This Sunday we continue our series "Living Beyond the Borders," about transforming our lives through the five practices of discipleship. Senior Pastor Mariellen Yoshino will give the message about Bold Service and Social Justice. The scripture is Matthew 16:24-25 and 25:40. All are welcome.

Same Pastor, New Title

As of July 1, Pastor Debbie Weatherspoon has a new title! She has transitioned from being the minister of discipleship to being the minister of community engagement. Pastor Debbie makes this change after discerning a new way to use her strengths of connectedness, empathy, positivity, harmony, and developing to engage the community both within LAUMC and beyond the campus, in our neighborhood and wider region. Visit our website for more details on Pastor Debbie's new role, and please give her your support as she makes this transition.

Sanctuary Feasibility Study Starts

Our Sanctuary renovation project moved an important step forward on June 26 when the Church Council unanimously approved that a feasibility study be conducted. The feasibility study has three major objectives. First, it will assess LAUMC's collective financial capacity and intent to support the capital spending required for the project. Second, and equally important, the study will provide a clear understanding of our capacity and readiness to sustainably support annual giving to LAUMC apart from these capital needs. Finally, we will gain a thorough understanding of our collective support of the project's scope: to what degree it encompasses what we want done. Read more about these plans on our website

Western Jurisdiction Meets This Week
Wednesday-Saturday, Scottsdale

This has been a busy few months of United Methodist-related conferences in our region, and the final one is going on now in Scottsdale, AZ. At the Western Jurisdictional Conference, Methodist delegates from across the Western U.S. are gathered for worship, fellowship, legislation, and envisioning ministry in our unique cultural settings. They are also electing a new bishop for the Western Jurisdiction to fill the vacancy left by our own Bishop Brown's retirement and determine where all of our five bishops will serve for the next four years. If you'd like to tune in and take a peek at what goes on, all of the conference sessions and worship services are being live streamed at this website. (The schedule is available on the Western Jurisdiction website.)
