Taglines. They can be distinct and memorable, but sometimes they get lost in the shuffle. GroupLife's tagline is "It's how we do life." We believe that doing life in groups with care, growth, and support is just better. Together we celebrate milestones such as graduations, births, and promotions. Together we grieve when there is loss, tragedy, or pain. And we are thankful we have others to "do life" with. I pray that this summer you find ways to enjoy doing life together. What does that mean in your group? What does that mean for those who don't have a group yet? Let's take our tagline to new heights!

Love Does Books Still Available

Several groups are already enjoying the adventure of Love Does! This fun, whimsical book by Bob Goff makes a great summer read, and copies are still available in the church office ($10). There is an accompanying five-session video and study guide as well. A few eager groups are already doing the study this summer. Our worship series based on this book begins September 11, with the author as our guest preacher on September 25. We will launch new groups during this time. We would love to have some folks step up to host a new group, or even just invite a couple of friends to engage together in these inspiring stories. Could you or someone in your group take the next step to host some new folks and show them "how we do life"? If you are interested or would like study materials before the end of August, please contact us at grouplife@laumc.org.

Gun Violence Small-Group Study

If your group would like to discuss the topic of gun violence, we have materials for you, thanks to our Stop Gun Violence Task Force. "The Armor of Light" is a documentary that tracks Reverend Rob Schenck, anti-abortion activist and fixture on the political far right, who breaks with orthodoxy by questioning whether being pro-gun is consistent with being pro-life. (The film's website offers a full summary of the documentary.)
The documentary DVD includes 60-minute and 90-minute versions of the film. We would recommended the shorter version for small groups so that there is also time for discussion. A discussion guide that came with the film is also available. If you would like more information or to get materials for your group, please contact Karen Pandula.

A Peek Inside the United Methodist Church

LAUMC's director of communications, Emily Allen, was a voting delegate at the recent United Methodist General Conference, which updated the United Methodist Church's policies and positions on a number of issues. If your group is interested in hearing her first-hand perspective of the inner workings of General Conference, what legislation passed, and what it means for us in the local church, she is willing to talk to your group! Contact Emily to arrange a time.
