Law and Justice Writers needed
The Board of County Commissioners is tasked with appointing citizens to a pro and con committee which will write the advocacy statements for the Novermber Law and Justice levy lid lift ballot measure. These statements (one for and one against) will appear in the on-line voters pamphlet. If you are interested in participating, please submit your name by August 12th for consideration via email district1@co.island.wa.us. All requests will be considered. The actual number of members for each committee is still being determined. In 2010, with the Proposition 1 measure, each Commissioner offered volunteers from their district for each committee. The committees must have an equal number of members. Thanks in advance for your interest.

Budgeting Begins
Budgeting for 2014 has begun for the Commissioners. Thankfully our expenses and revenues have stabilized for the coming year and we are not looking at major cuts to services. Here is a link to the Budget Director's overview presentation. The Board has shared our individual priorities for budgeting and invited elected officials to a preliminary discussion. We will be presented with a draft document later this month and begin meeting with department heads and elected officials to learn more details about their goals for the coming year. My budget priorities for 2014 are: - Preserve public safety, health and justice services
- Maintain a safety net for our most vulnerable citizens
- Strengthen economic recovery in Island County
- Improve performance and streamline processes
- Invest in current staff by restoring a COLA for 2014
I welcome your input during this process. Please let me know if you are interested in a full calendar of meeting times. |
