Law and Justice Levy
This has been a topic in my recent newsletters, so I thought I should give you the latest update. On Monday, July 15th the Board could take action to place a Law and Justice Levy on the ballot in November. Here is a link to the document being considered. After three public meetings held around the county by the Sheriff to gain input, I believe there is adequate support to place this measure before the voters. The Law and Justice Committee recommended a 5 year $2.6 million measure. The proposal on our agenda is modified slightly to reflect feedback received - it is for a 4 year levy to generate about $1.9 million exclusively for Law and Justice Programs. This is estimated to restore program staffing to 2008 levels. There are not adequate resources within the County to achieve that level of service without additional revenues. If a majority of the Board supports it, this will go to Island County's voters to decide during the November election. |
