December 2012

There are a few events this week (other than Christmas) I want you to know about.

On Thursday in the Commissioners' office  there will be an  open house to thank Angie Homola for her service to Island County as the District 2 County Commissioner. You are welcome to drop in (Admin bldg. Room #214) any time between 10 am and 3 pm to share refreshments, appreciations and stories.

At 6:30 pm on Thursday, the Board will hold a public hearing on the amended Shoreline Master Program in the Commmissioners' Hearing Room. There will be a video link from the Camano Annex. This is the culmination of two years of extensive public outreach, discussion and compromise. I am proud to say that, though not perfect, it does update our policies and reflect our community's goals for preserving our shoreline.

Then on Friday at 1:30 pm in Judge Hancock's courtroom Jill Johnson and I will take the oath of office. Immediately following the ceremony there will be a reception on the first floor of the Administration Bldg. Room #116. Please join us as I begin another four years as Commissioner for District 1 and she begins her first term on the Board.

As 2012 comes to an end I want to thank you for your interest in County government and willingness to stay engaged by subscribing to this newsletter. We live in a country which depends upon an active electorate. Democracy is not a spectator sport! Be sure to forward this email to others who may be interested in joining our community conversation. Thanks for your help. It is truly an honor to serve the citizens of Island County.

Best wishes for your holidays and a happy and healthy New Year,

Helen Price Johnson
