"We Are the Thousand Arms of Chenrezik - His Holiness Karmapa's Activity."

The atmosphere at KTD during the Khenpo Gangshar Teachings by Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche May 17 - 19 was one of wisdom and kindness.

"There is no place like this - there is a life inside the building. The building's life is in its operation, and the members keep the lights on." said Lama Kathy Wesley, who spoke about the importance of KTD Membership.

In his concluding remarks for the teachings, Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche said, "I teach you this because I dare to hope that it will really help you."  Lama Yeshe Gyamtso translated the teachings for us.

During the teaching weekend, Amy McCracken had in mind a fundraising goal of $2,500 in her effort to collect funds to repair the KTD Shrine Building's roof; she collected $3,500, and the ever-generous Friends of KTD offered a matching grant! This brings the much-needed roof repair wonderfully close to completion.

To further support our journey on the Dharma path, Khenpo Rinpoche will offer Lay Vows on Friday night, June 7 at 7 p.m., and the Long-Form Bodhisattva Vows on June 8-9.  Register now.

THIS WEEKEND, JUNE 1 and 2:
TARA DANCES with PREMA DASARA

Prema Dasara will teach three Tara dances at KTD in a program running from Saturday evening June 1 through Sunday evening June 2

The dances in these sessions are based in simple movements that require no special training; anyone can do them. What makes them extraordinary and effective are the meditations. The meditations are designed to awaken the innate capacity of the heart. Resting in wisdom, radiating love, a special energy field is generated and a sense of comfort and stability experienced. In this exceptional environment deep insight arises.

Groundbreaking: Pastoral Care Graduation!

Patricia Myerson,Cathy Jackson, Bonnie Snyder, Jan Tarlin and Lama Kathy Wesley. Photo by Stephanie Colvey.

Two years of study culminated in a special "graduation" on Sunday May 19 for four Karma Triyana Dharmachakra dharma students, who received letters of completion in Pastoral Care Studies from Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche.

The "pilot class" spent two years steeping themselves in the study of Lojong and Bodhicitta, Basic Buddhadharma, Working with the Sick and Dying, Medicine Buddha practice, and Volunteering in their local communities. Weekly conference call lessons were augmented with four in-person weekends a year with Lama Kathy Wesley, who helped design the program and guided it through its completion.

In presenting the letters, Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche remarked that the students had trained extensively in bodhicitta and Medicine Buddha, and said they would be of great benefit to their own communities. He also asked Lama Kathy to continue training Pastoral Care students, who he said would be representatives of the dharma in KTD's sanghas and the world at large.

Congratulations to graduates Cathy Jackson (Columbus, Ohio, Karma Thegsum Choling), Patricia Myerson (Cape Ann Massachusetts Vajra Vidya), Bonnie Snyder (Greenville NC Karma Thegsum Choling), and Jan Tarlin (who lives at KTD and serves as a Meditation Instructor and Program Specialist). May all beings benefit!
