Mansion Monthly

June 2015

Meet me at the Mansion!

Greetings from the Mansion!

For quite a few of us, fashion has been a part of our lives since we dressed our childhood dolls.  If you are interested in learning about a century (1860s-1960s) of changing styles, join the Mansion's volunteer clothing curator as she takes you on a special historic clothing tour.  Click here for more information on these tours.

Coming next month is the Mansion's annual 4th of July Ice Cream Social directly after the Kalispell Parade.  We invite everyone to enjoy us for free ice cream on the Mansion's grounds.  Self-guided tours of the Mansion will be offered at reduced rates.

In August, mark your calendars for Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd.  A special event will celebrate the return of the Conrad Family firearms for the first time in the Museum's 40-year history.  Two nationally known firearms experts will be on hand to discuss the collection.

Thank you for your continued support!

A Wonderful Return!

Recently this beautiful music stand returned to the Mansion compliments of Chris Vick, Mr. Conrad's great-grandson and Family Representative on the Board of Directors. The mahogany, lyre-shaped floor stand now sits next to Mrs. Conrad's piano in the Music Room.  In addition to storage in the top racks, the bottom drawer also opens.

Below is a picture of the music stand taken in 1975 when the Mansion's contents were inventoried after the City of Kalispell agreed to accept ownership of the home.

A Trivia Question...

The lyre is a classical string instrument.  Its shape is featured prominently in the Music Room, where Mrs. Conrad's original piano is located.  How many examples of the lyre shape grace the room?
