Mansion Monthly

April 2015

Meet me at the Mansion!

Greetings from the Mansion!

Is CHOCOLATE "high" on your favorites list? Are you a crime solver extraordinaire?  Would nibbling on hors d'oeuvres and sipping wine enhance your skills?  If you answered YES to any or all of these questions, join us for the 14th annual Death by Chocolate Murder Mystery!   See more event information below.

As the Mansion's major fundraiser, this year's proceeds will be used to repair the roof.  During the winter, weather-related events created a thick ice jam that caused an interior ceiling leak.  Repair estimates are around $13,000.

Raffle donations for Death by Chocolate are pouring in.  Please click here to see the list of community supporters to date.   With the generous support of these donors, as well as those who attend Mansion events, take tours, purchase Mansion memberships, provide other financial support and with the help of our dedicated volunteers, we can continue to preserve and protect the Conrad Estate for future generations.

Thank you.

Back in the Day .... A 1970s Chocolate Recipe!

To salute this year's Death by Chocolate Murder Mystery 1970s sitcom theme,  A MASH Up Fantasy Island 3 Hour-Tour Love Bunch Murder Mystery, a search of the decade's popular recipes found this "Rocky Road Bars."  The ad from a 1970s magazine takes us back to the time when TV sitcoms like The Love Boat, Gilligan's Island, MASH, The Brady Bunch and Fantasy Island were popular.

This vintage recipe, courtesy of the Click Americana website, can be prepared in less time than the 3-hour Gilligan's Island scheduled tour!  Alice, the housekeeper/maid, loved making these bars for the Brady Bunch kids.  An episode of Fantasy Island shows Tatoo munching on a bar as he awaits the plane's arrival.  Are you greasing the brownie pan yet?

A Trivia Question...

Of course, chocolate is on the menu at the upcoming Death by Chocolate Murder Mystery.  Do you know which company is America's longest continuously operating chocolate manufacturer?

1.  Hershey

2.  Ghirardelli

3.  Nestle
