Lingerie Dresses-Summer 2013
Historic Clothing Exhibit

Our Summer 2013 Historic Clothing Exhibit features Lingerie Dresses.
Lingerie dresses were a popular summer dress, because they were cooler, easier to clean, and somewhat less expensive than a silk dress. Worn for special occasions which required a "best" dress, such as summer garden parties, picnics, graduations, and confirmations. Some of the more elaborate versions were even worn as wedding dresses.
The exhibit contains eight women's lingerie dresses, two women's white lingerie style shirtwaists, and seven children's white cotton and lace dresses from the period between 1900-1920. One of the lingerie dresses was worn by Kokoa Baldwin, the first wife of Charles D. Conrad.
For more information, please click this link to our website and our special summer clothing exhibit.
A special thank you to Teresa Knutson and Sarah Safford for putting the collection together.

Nativity Makeover - Third Piece
The Angel is the third piece that Miriam Emerson has restored of the Nativity Scene that was donated to the Conrad Mansion in the early 80's.
These photos showcase the before and after shots of Miriam's restoration of the Angel.
We will be highlighting a different piece each month then showcase the full scene at the 30th Annual Christmas at the Mansion event in October.
We are grateful to the long-time Kalispell residents Rosalie Heineke, Lois Himsel, and Gerene Little for the original donation. Also a special thank you to Miriam Emerson for taking on the restoration of these wonderful pieces. Please see our Nativity Scene Restoration page on our website for more information on this project.

Thank You!
We'd like to extend a special Thank You to Lillian Jenkins for donating the antique Flexible Flyer toboggan to the Conrad Mansion Museum.
Alicia Conrad Campbell originally received the sled as a Christmas present when she was 6 years old. As she and her children got older, the Campbell's gave the sled to the Kvaalen family to enjoy. Although first, George Campbell (Alicia's husband) replaced a broken part of the rope prior to giving it to the children.
Otto Kvaalen (Lillian's dad) went to school with the Campbell children and lived at the Mansion when he was in high school while his parents were away working in the shipyards during WWII.
Lillian has fond memories of sledding down Woodland Hill with her friends during the winter months. Thanks to you Lillian and your siblings (Gregg Mosley, Connie Kvaalen, Mark Kvaalen, and Kari Kvaalen).

Where is this in the Mansion?
There are so many unique items and features of the Mansion! Do you know what this is? Drop us an email if you know. Answer will be in next month's newsletter.

The image depicted last month is the secret door in the staircase that Alicia and her grandmothers used to exchange notes and sweet treats.
