Lettie's Fairy Steps

Fairy Steps

The August/September issue of 406 Woman Magazine features a story about the Fairy Steps behind the Conrad Mausoleum at the Conrad Cemetery.

The story outlines the importance of the Fairy Steps to Lettie Conrad along with the history behind them and mythical quality of the steps.

The story came to life after long-time guide, Michelle Morgan's, daughter Holli Stephens decided to clean up the Fairy Steps as part of a home school community project.

Stephens gathered her class (Morgan Stephens, Triston Hardgrove, Matthew Hardgrove, and Joshuwa Hardgrove) along with the proper equipment and set off to work.  They spent the better part of four days clearing shrubs from the path, removing dirt from the steps, and cleaning up the area around the Fairy Steps.  It's great to see the younger generation help to preserve this wonderful piece of history.

The museum staff is grateful to Stephens and the children for this wonderful act of kindness in the name of the Conrad's.  They hope that all who visit the "Fairy Steps" be touched by the love and care that created them and still care for them today.

Pick up a copy of the new 406 Woman in mid August to read the full story!

 Last month's answer...

AC Lamp

The image depicted last month was a drawing of Alicia Conrad's on a lamp shade in the Great Room of the Mansion.

You can see her initials at the very bottom right side of the drawing.
