Meet Mallory

CM Mallory

After my move from the New Orleans area to Kalispell at the age of 8, the Conrad Mansion took its place as an integral part of my life.

I've wandered the grounds and explored the gardens, peered into the windows in hopes of spotting a lonesome ghost, and of course salivated over the little plastic food props around the house.  When I first toured the Mansion, I only wished that I could touch its beautiful furnishings.  Little did I know that someday I'd be able to touch them all I wanted (provided that I wear gloves, of course!)

Working at the Conrad Mansion is a magical experience.  Every time that I step through the door, I feel as though I've been transported back in time to a romantic and beautiful world over 100 years in our past.  I hope to convey that sense of wonder to the visitors of the Museum this year.

When I'm not studying history of the Conrad family and the city that they helped found, you can find me trekking in Glacier National Park, writing a novel, competing in a black powder shoot or practicing Yoga.

We appreciate Mallory and all of our terrific staff here at the Conrad Mansion Museum.

New Windsor Sewing Machine

Sew machine

The New Windsor sewing machine was made by the Royal Sewing Machine Co of Small Heath Birmingham.

The Royal Sewing Machine Co was responsible for the manufacture of many models. They were patentees and sole makers of the following machines:

  • The Royal Milton
  • The Avon
  • The Times
  • The Monarch
  • The Regent
  • The Shakespear (no 'e')
  • The Challenge
  • The Agenoria (once it bought the rights)
  • The Windsor
  • The Eureka
  • The Eugenie
  • The Royal
  • The South Kensington

The machines were sold to dealers such as Cole & Co of Edinburgh and A. R. Farm of Renfield Street, Glasgow.

The company, out paced by the giants such as Singer and Jones, finally ceased trading in 1888.  It made little news at the time as all the papers were focused on the brutish murders in Whitechapel by the infamous Jack the Ripper.

While the company may have faded into history they have left behind a legacy of some of the most beautiful sewing machines of all time.

Information provided by sewalot.com.

On your next visit I hope you will take a few minutes to appreciate this wonderful antique sewing machine.
