Haradon wins WIF Seattle's Professional Grant
Elisa Haradon and her project Sweetheart Deal
are big news at WIF Seattle this issue. Elisa won WIF's Professional Grant, worth $1k in cash and up to $10K of in-kind donations for her project. The film follows the lives of three drug-addicted prostitutes on Aurora Avenue as they struggle with addiction and try to create a better future for themselves. In honor of Elisa's effort, we are featuring her prominently on our website. Check out the interview with her in our Featured Member section. The article was written by Samantha Herndon, a Seattle-based news and culture writer. She has written for Crosscuts, Creative Loafing and YES Magazine, among other publications. Movie Talk: What I Learned From Reading ET
This spring, we're rolling out "Movie Talk," a new section on our website devoted to learning more about the making of films. Our featured guest writer this time around is the talented Brian McDonald, screen writer and instructor extraaordinaire. Check out the Movie Talk article here to learn why Brian doffs his hat to Melissa Mathison, the screenwriter for E-T.
Movie Talk replaces Annie Grosshans' Movie Salon and Discourse Parlor. But don''t despair -- you can still find Annie's blog, ripe with interesting observations and recommendations for films in our archives. Click our Movie Salon button in the sidebar of this newsletter to visit the page. |

WIF Board Chair Changes
Jenn George, our talented co-chair of The Second Tuesday (TST), is stepping down due to her demanding work schedule. She leaves the stewardship of TST in the capable hands of her co-chair Tari White. Catherine Grealish, whom Tari replaced a few months ago, has moved to LA, and is now serving as our LA liaison. See her post on networking in L.A. in this month's And Now a Word. We'd like to express our thanks to both Jenn and Catherine and congratulate them on their hard work and dedication. If you are interested in applying for a board position, please visit our
