A Guide to Climate Resiliency & The Community College

SEED is pleased to release our new report developed with the Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS).

This report positions technical and community colleges as the key education partner for municipalities seeking to ready their workforce and communities for climate change-related impacts.

We found that hundreds of municipalities' resiliency plans lack any type of education or training component, which opens the door for your college to take the lead on technical skills building, community preparedness, and jobs creation. Your important role in resilient community building is in developing curriculum and career pathways, providing community leadership and networking, prioritizing community needs, and providing critical material support during a crisis.

This report offers messaging and background in resilient community building along with data, resources, funders, recommendations for action, and case studies so you can take the next step in contributing to this dialog and have a seat at the decision-making table.

Travel Stipends Available

Did you know that commercial buildings account for 19% (and growing) of the energy consumed in the United States? As energy efficiency demands increase, there is also an increase in demand for workers with advanced competencies in operations, maintenance, and energy-related technologies who can address energy efficiency in new construction and building retrofits. A large portion of these workers will be trained at community colleges. Learn from the U.S. Dept. of Energy and leading colleges on what this industry is, where it is going, and what two-year colleges need to be doing to prepare qualified workers. This workshop is designed for deans and leaders of college workforce development programs who are interested in learning how to begin curriculum in this area.
