Summer Greetings from SEED

Dear Colleagues,

SEED was formed 3 ½ years ago for one overarching purpose: to facilitate sharing among colleges that are building clean technology and sustainability-related education programs. The TAACCCT grant framework fits this SEED mission nicely. There are more than a dozen TAACCCT consortium in the "green" space with innovative practices and curriculum developed and ready to be adapted in many more places. SEED will continue to be the vehicle through which the sharing of this information occurs. We invite you to take advantage of our resources to connect you to the right practices. And, in the meantime, we hope you have a wonderful summer.

Sincerely, Bryan Albrecht

SEED Can Help!

In the spring, the Department of Labor announced the fourth round of funding through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant project with $450 million available to community colleges. If your school is applying and is focusing on a sector within clean energy or environmental technologies, SEED can connect you to existing grantees in these areas. We have compiled a list of these programs and their unique features which is now available on our website. SEED works with these colleges and is ready to connect you so you can adapt promising practices from successful grantees. Contact sustainability@aacc.nche.edu to connect.

SEED's Mentor Connect Program Yielding Big Advances

Students at Norwalk Community College beginning a full energy audit of a neighborhood home.

Norwalk Community College (CT), a member of the 2014 SEED Mentor Connect cohort is exploring the launch of a new energy management degree program. With the help of SEED's experienced mentors, the college recently held a regional industry advisory meeting with area utilities, energy service companies, and other corporations to gauge their interest and buy-in. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection caught wind of this effort and will be including the college in a grant request to the U.S. Department of Energy. The Mentor Connect program has provided Norwalk Community College the foundational curriculum to give this project the momentum it needs.
