2014 Green Genome Awards

One Month Left - Enter to Win Big!

How would your college utilize $7,500 in cash and $7,000 of state-of-the-art tools from Bahco?  Central Carolina Community College , one of the winners of the  2013 Green Genome Awards, used their award funding to support their sustainable agriculture associate's degree program - the nation's first! Students learn environmental awareness, small business, and technical skills through their work on a profitable, environmentally sound, and community-based farm.

This year, the SEED Center is ready to discover the next generation of schools that are building and educating for a clean economy. If your school excels in community engagement, governance, program design and delivery, or strategic partnerships in the green space - we want to hear from you! Five national winners will be selected to win the cash and prizes and will also be showcased by the SEED Center and through various publications and media. All applications are due April 30, 2014 - so apply today!

SEED's Living Labs

SEED continues to educate colleges on launching campus sustainable living laboratories. Our first toolkit set the stage for a series of workshops including one that occurred last week at Central New Mexico Community College as part of the BEST Center's building technology event. Now we are progressing toward our second guide that will drill deeper into lesson plans and curricular best practices, providing colleges the turnkey tools you need to begin your own living laboratories. Check back on the Living Lab website to learn more about what is to come.
SEED Webinar April 15

The UN says it's at the "core of sustainable development" worldwide. By 2020, 100,000 jobs are projected to open across 27 distinct occupations in this field. Even Matt Damon is talking about it. It's clear to anyone paying attention - sustainable water projects are the way of the future.

In the face of outdated infrastructure, climate shifts, increasing consumer demand, and an aging workforce, the water industry is gearing up for a major transformation. Community colleges will be at the front end preparing skilled technicians and knowledgeable and passionate conservationists who will lead us to a more economically viable and sustainable future. Join the SEED Center and Johnson County Community College  for the first of several conversations about water, education, and training. The webinar "Community Colleges, Education, and the Impending Water Crisis" will be held on April 15, 2014 from 3:00 - 4:00 pm EST. Click here to register today!
