Looking to be Part of a National Conversation on Sustainability Skills?
Join AACC's Sustainability Task Force
Dear SEED Center Supporters,
Are you a SEED member CEO or senior administrator and interested in serving on the American Association of Community College's Sustainability Task Force? This group of 25 college administrators provides a critical voice for the 21st Century green college and guides the direction of the SEED Center. The group includes some of the nation's top higher education experts and meets twice a year to network and share best sustainability practices.
We are looking for new members. If you---or a leader on your campus---would like to serve, please RSVP. We are looking for leaders who believe strongly in building a healthy green and economically viable economy. As community colleges redesign campuses to generate energy and utility savings, many are finding innovative ways to use these new projects as teaching tools for students across an array of programs. Learn from St. Clair Community College (MI) and Siemens Industry, Inc. as they continue to work together to transform the institution into a living laboratory where students gain valuable real-world skills and where the institution meets its broader sustainability goals.

What You Missed: Energy Efficiency, Service Learning, & Marketable Green Credentials
Our March 5, the SEED Center held an incredible webinar with Butte College (CA), California State University-Chico, and the City of Butte on a collaborative model to help local homeowners achieve lasting energy efficiencies while simultaneously providing marketable building performance credentials for students. The project-Chico Energy Pioneers--training area contractors and students while pairing them with university students to conduct energy efficiency behavioral consultations with area homeowners.
If your college has a courses in weatherization, building performance, or energy auditing, this is a must see!

As winner of the 2012 Green Genome Award in the overall category, Hillsborough Community College (FL) has a record of environmental stewardship that dates back to the earliest days of the college's existence. The college embarked on a variety of activities focused on sustainability and the development of a green workforce, including building strategic partnerships and engaging the community along the way.
The college's comprehensive approach has been successful because it works from and builds on the college's strengths, operates from the perspective that sustainability is a systemic issue and must be addressed in a multifaceted manner, and leverages the college's twin priorities of education and community engagement. As runner up of the 2012 Green Genome Award in the overall category, Delaware Technical Community College has developed and implemented 10 academic offerings that prepare students for employment in the state's existing and emerging green workforce.
In addition, the College's new Center for Industry Research and Workforce Alignment (CIRWA) -- which is working to bring to light new and emerging technologies, trends and occupations not captured in traditional workforce research -- is currently identifying key competitive niche markets that will provide opportunities for green business creation, expansion, employment, training and job growth in the state.
