Martial Law Declared in Thailand

As of early Tuesday morning, martial law has been put into effect in Thailand by Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha. No curfew has been put into effect and aside from an increased military presence many are claiming that it is business as usual. The declaration of martial law is seen as an act to stabilize tensions and allow the key parties involved in the political unrest to start a dialogue aimed at ending the conflict.

According to CNN, the Tourism Authority of Thailand had issued a statement saying "as of today, the situation remains unchanged in the city except for the presence of soldiers on the streets, simply to maintain peace and ensure order is kept at the protest sites." Hotels, airports, and public transportation are all running without major disruptions. The full statement is available here.
