Manila Truck Ban Likely to Cause Shipping Delays

The city of Manila, Philippines has enacted a law banning daytime use of commercial trucks, including those transporting household goods cargo, from using Manila roads - effective February 24, 2014. The purpose of the ban is to reduce traffic congestion between the hours of 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. During those 16 hours, eight-wheel trucks and vehicles with a gross weight above 4,500 kilograms are barred from using Manila roads.

Congestion at the ports and delays at the airport of Manila are anticipated as a result of the ban. Shipments that require packing, loading and delivering of household goods within the city of Manila to will need to occur outside of the restricted times. While the local industry works on coping with these changes, it remains unclear how this will affect the scheduling of household goods labor crews and transportation.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will be updating any clients whose shipments are directly affected. If you have any questions, please contact your move manager, who can provide you with the latest available information.
