Port Congestion Leads to Delays in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Continued congestion in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, has led to increased delays that are affecting all sea exports from Dar es Salaam. Transit times have increased from 4 weeks to between 2 and 4 months since the end of 2012.

Port authorities are attempting to clear the backlog: this build up occurred due to new procedures that were implemented in December 2012, after discovering that ivory was being exported in containers. Now all containers are being physically scanned before exporting.

We anticipate that sea exports will continue to experience delays for the full first half of 2013. We will continue to monitor the situation closely. Please contact your move manager if you have any questions and for the latest information.
