Port of Hampton Roads to receive diverted cargo from the

Port of New York and New Jersey

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the Port of New York and New Jersey remained closed Wednesday and are still without power.

As a result, a large amount of cargo has been diverted to the port of Hampton Roads. According to the Virginia Port Authority, "We're going to get 1,000 containers tomorrow and 1,100 automobiles." To accommodate for this, the Portsmouth Marine Terminal could be put into use after nearly two years of being closed.

The terminals in New York Harbor could stay closed for at least another day to asses the scope of the damage.
