Supplements

I want to give you a preview of next month's lecture on Supplements. Clearly we cannot cover all the supplements in one session. I plan to cover three to four in some depth.

Right now I am thinking of Resveratrol, and water extracts of Camellia Sinensis, otherwise known as tea.

If you have a supplement that you would like to suggest, please email your ideas to me at drtaylor@womanswellspring.com.

I will try to address as many as possible and please fell free to bring your general question to the talk.

As you enter Chautauqua Hall, you may wish to reflect on the history of the Chautauqua movement. John Vincent, a minister, and Lewis Miller, an inventor, founded the Chautauqua movement in 1874. They created a vacation retreat that combined a natural environment with educational lectures and classes. At the time it was one of the few places that women could get some education.

This 1904 quote from Charlotte Perkins Gilmore in 1904 is very appropriate for our gathering:

"That is what Chautauqua is-a great feeding place for mind and heart and soul; not the least of the nourishment is in the contact of so many nice people-quite aside from the courses of instruction."

Tai Chi News

Silk Reeling Level 2 Workshop is scheduled for January 4-5, 2014. This is a two day intensive with Sifu Dan Jones. Silk Reeling is a foundation technique for Tai Chi. Dan has an unusual gift for making this essential advanced technique available to all levels of Tai Chi practitioners. Last years workshop was quite full, and I encourage your to register early. If you have not taken Level 1, please talk to Dr. Taylor about individual study to prepare for Level 2.

For those of you who want a time to practice with friends, Dr. Taylor created a Tai Chi on the Monterey Peninsula Meetup group. Just go to www.meetup.com and type Tai Chi in the search box. We have had three meetings so far and had a great time together.

The more senior Tai Chi participants  gave a great demonstration for world Tai Chi day. Their happy picture is posted on our business Facebook site- Womanswellspring on Facebook

The Harvard Medical School Guide to Tai Chi was just published. It is written by a noteworthy Harvard researcher, and published by a noteworthy martial arts publishing house. Isn't that an interesting combination? It will be an excellent reference for all the research supporting Tai Chi's health benefits.

Office Fragrance Policy

More people are becoming sensitive to environmental chemicals. It is a new science, but it appears that sensitization occurs over a lifetime of exposure and can result in significant illness. One of the strongest triggers is diesel exhaust, but there are many other environmental chemicals that are known sensitizers. Some people become sensitive before others. Because they are in the minority, they are not often taken seriously. However, the analogy of the canary in the mine shaft is appropriate. If we do not recognize the distress of our canaries, we will all be at risk.

Before World War 2, perfumes were naturally extracted from plants and flowers. The increasing demand for inexpensive fragrance fueled the development of synthetic scents. This is understandable when you realize that a half an ounce of rose extract is $350.00.  Individuals who are chemically sensitive will react negatively to a synthetic scent, and we have requested that visitors to our office refrain from wearing synthetic cologne or perfume.

I would invite you to explore the producers of natural perfumes. I am not marketing products but rather letting you know of producers that I have worked with over the years that have proven to be of high quality and excellent craftsmanship. There is one shop in Carmel, Ajne. If you want a more complete experience, visit the web site of Mandy Aftel, http://www.aftelier.com/.  Mandy is both a pioneer in natural fragrances, and her products are of the highest natural quality. If you are interested in making some fragrances of your own, visit Original Swiss aromatics, a very high quality essential oil distributor. They have one rose perfume and several hydrosols (water-based sprays for refreshing).  You can find them at http://www.originalswissaromatics.com/default.asp

Thank you in advance for your care and consideration to avoid fragrances on the days you visit our office. If we can help in any way, or if you wish any more information, you can email Dr. Taylor at drtaylor@womanswellspring.com

"True wellness and deep healing is more than the application of a pill to a diagnosis. I have pioneered a new approach to healthcare that is based on personal and community wellness. Here is what this means:

The first community is you. Each person is a composite of their own life experiences and their own circle of support. Every factor needs to be evaluated to develop a picture of the whole person. Each element can then be recruited into the healing process.

The second community is where you live. The majority of public health research shows that the health of individuals is not separate from the health of the community. We have an obligation to ourselves to care for our community. This means taking the ecological initiative and also supporting the small businesses that are based in our community, especially our local farmers. Over time the community that you care for will also care for you.

The center of the program is the office visit. We offer 30 and 60 minute patient visits. This gives us enough time to really get to know you. The relationship does not end at the office visit. You will enter a supportive community linked by regular newsletters and educational programs. You will have the opportunity to re-discover yourself and the joys of living on the Monterey Peninsula. Visit Medical Program and Educational Program and see how this unique holistic program can benefit you and assist you in achieving your life's purpose."
