2016 AWARDEES
For 2016, the Board of Directors of Claremont Heritage is pleased to announce that the Bess Garner Preservation Award will honor Pilgrim Place in recognition of their Centennial and the stewardship shown in the preservation of their architecture, natural environment, cultural heritage and history.
Pilgrim Place is a 32-acre cultural and religious community founded in 1915 for retired non-profit workers from around the world. Pilgrim Place is home to over 300 residents and 150 homes where winding tree-lined streets - with names like Mayflower and Bradford - give this complex the look of a small village of the 1920s.
The 2016 Cultural Heritage Award will go to First Street Gallery Art Center, a project of the Tierra del Sol Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization celebrating 45 years dedicated to enabling individuals with developmental and multiple disabilities to realize their greatest human potential.
First Street Gallery is a unique art center founded on the proposition that human potential for creativity and artistic expression is not limited by physical or intellectual challenges. Through cultivation of artistic expression, people with significant challenges can develop creatively and make important contributions to the cultural and economic life of their communities.
