NOVEMBER / DECEMBER EVENTS

As the weather chills (hopefully) and the flurry of events that signal the end to another year increases, we should take pause to reflect on the blessings that come with living in such a beautiful and historic town.  As is stated in our General Plan, "Claremont didn't just happen".  A concerted and intentional effort by our citizens over the years have helped to create a sense of place that honors our cultural, natural and architectural heritage.

We invite you to join us in helping to preserve what is important to our community and what makes it a great place to live and work!  As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

The next few weeks offer many opportunities to experience Claremont's cultural attributes through art, craft, music, cuisine and the support of educational programs that give back to to the kids who are the future of our very special community.  Please support your community and enjoy one or more of the events listed below.

Claremont Heritage is an inclusive community organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating our cultural, architectural and natural heritage - see how you can become involved HERE!

Reception for the Artist

Claremont Heritage is pleased to present
Photography by Chris Darrow - a collection entitled Vanishing West

Darrow, a multi-faceted and gifted local musician, has for decades been augmenting his auditory accomplishments with a keen visual documentation of the world around him.  This selection of images represents a segment of an incredible body of work that Chris has compiled while touring across the US.

Curated by Claremont Heritage Executive Director, David Shearer, this exhibition visually documents our past and the relics of our culture that are often lost in the progress of time.

The large format works will be available for sale.

About Chris Darrow - Long before recording as a solo artist in the 1970s, multi-instrumentalist Chris Darrow was a well-known musician and trusted sideman in Los Angeles' tightly knit music scene.  His early career was spent playing in bluegrass combo The Dry City Scat Band with David Lindley, and fronting electric rock group The Floggs.  A stint with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band led to the formation of The Corvettes, which later resulted in long-term touring relationships with Linda Ronstadt and John Stewart. Even if you have never heard his name before, Darrow's fingerprints remain in conspicuous corners of the public consciousness.  He contributed to pivotal session gigs with Leonard Cohen, James Taylor and Hoyt Axton and crossed paths with Sly Stone, Sonny and Cher, Gram Parsons, Gene Vincent, Jim Morrison, Frank Zappa and even Walt Disney and Hugh Hefner.
