Report from CQHA Board of Directors' Meeting

Langley, BC -- March 21, 2015 --The CQHA Board of Directors holds a face-to-face meeting prior to the start of each annual AQHA Convention. This year's meeting, to conduct CQHA business for the upcoming year, was held at 1:35 p.m., on Friday, March 6th, at the Omni Hotel, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Highlights from this year's business meeting were:
  • the Chair opened the meeting and welcomed non-voting guests: Dan Patterson, Lenore Clifford, Debbie Haughton, and Laurie Haughton.
  • the minutes of the Board of Directors' teleconference meeting held on Nov. 19, 2014 were acknowledged as approved by email vote.
  • the minutes of the 2015 Annual General Meeting held on Jan. 17, 2015 were approved for submission to the membership for final approval at the 2016 AGM.
  • the Marketing Committee's recommendation was approved, to accept one vendor's bid from the Request for Proposals received to upgrade the CQHA website.
  • 2015-16 CQHA Executive Committee members were elected as follows: Haidee Landry, BC as President; Wayne Burwash, AB as Vice President; Gayle Pawley-Wilson, BC as Secretary; and Steve Schiestel, AB as Treasurer.
  • a motion was passed to hold the next CQHA Annual General Meeting in conjunction with the 2016 Alberta Horse Owners & Breeders Conference to be held in Red Deer, AB.
  • a progress report about the Shannon Burwash Memorial Scholarship Award was given: efforts to reach the target goal of $100,000 are ongoing, including the Facebook online fundraising auction running closing on March 31, 2015 and that one $2,000 scholarship will be awarded in the fall of 2015. 
  • the final financial report on Team Canada's participation in the 2014 AQHA Youth World Cup was accepted; and the 2016 Team Canada coach and manager position descriptions were reviewed and revised and will be posted on the CQHA website.
  • reports were accepted regarding: Equine Canada's upcoming Industry Division Forum and Export Marketing Initiative regarding the 2015 Pan Am Horse Experience; along with reports from the Marketing, Communications, and Budget Committees.
  • a report was accepted regarding the discussions with AQHA about changes to be made to the agreements with Canadian Affiliates which have a drug testing program in place.
  • a motion was passed to give the President authority to sign the 2015 AQHA/CQHA Affiliate agreement.
  • CQHA/Canadian AQHA affiliate funding request guidelines were reviewed and revised with respect to reporting and submission deadlines, and will be posted on the CQHA website.
  • CQHA Board members will make a presentation to the AQHA International Committee during the Convention, with respect to the 2015 Pan Am Horse Experience.
  • the Equine Canada proposed By-Law revisions were discussed and direction given to our voting delegate for the upcoming in-person vote at the 2015 Equine Canada Conference.
  • the meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m.

Upon conclusion of this meeting, AQHA Directors, members and guests participated in the many activities, events and meetings on the AQHA Convention schedule March 6th to 8th, 2015.
