A BLAST FROM THE PAST
The Canadian Quarter Horse Association's
Stud Book #1 -1965
(Langley, BC - February 7, 2013) --- The CQHA is pleased to announce that we have come into possession of a wonderful piece of our Canadian Quarter Horse history, the CQHA Stud Book #1 - issued in 1965.
The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) kindly digitized this book for us, so that can be accessed on line, as a PDF file. You can now access this book on our revised CQHA website link. Although this file has been posted in a compressed PDF format, it is a still quite a large file, so please have patience with the download time.
Once upon a time, there were two Quarter Horse registries, the one started in the US in 1940, and then one was started in Canada. This Stud Book indicates the first CQHA Board of Directors was struck in 1957. The Canadian registry was eventually phased out as redundant. Our CQHA files with the Canadian Livestock Registry were closed as of 1988.
This "blast from the past" makes for very interesting reading, especially for those of us who remember that era and the many wonderful Quarter Horses which Canadians took special pride in registering here in Canada. Most, but not all, the horses in this CQHA Stud Book were registered with AQHA. Those horses registered only in Canada are noted with a CAN prefix in the book.
If you, or anyone you know, has an original copy of any subsequent year's CQHA Stud Books, we would be interested in obtaining them for historical purposes. Please contact Haidee Landry, CQHA President at (604) 530-8051 or click here to email to discuss donating or selling your copy to CQHA.
A big thank you goes out to former CQHA Director Bill Holliday, Weyburn, SK for acquiring this historical treasure on behalf of CQHA.
