Follow Up Report on the 
2011 CQHA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

held January 28, 2011

The Canadian Quarter Horse Association held its 2011 Annual General Meeting in Ottawa, ON, on Friday, January 28, 2011. Click here for a PDF copy of the Chair's AGM PowerPoint presentation.  
 

The AGM began at 6:30 p.m. with distinguished keynote speaker, Ms. Cindy Schonholtz, of Colorado Springs, CO who spoke about "Animal Welfare & Animal Rights Issues Facing the Horse Industry". Ms. Schonholtz serves as the Director of Industry Outreach for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). In this position she handles all livestock welfare and related government relations for the association. Additionally, she oversees the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund and the youth outreach efforts. She is the President of the Animal Welfare Council, Vice President of the National Animal Interest Alliance member, serves on the Animal Welfare Committee of the American Horse Council and is a member of the Public Policy Committee for the American Quarter Horse Association. She served as the Executive Director for the American Youth Horse Council for four years and was on the Colorado Horse Council Board of Directors for 10 years. Ms. Schonholtz has been involved with horses since she got her first pony at age 10. She has shown American Quarter Horses in many disciplines and competed in rodeos in the barrel racing in High School and professionally.

The CQHA Annual General Meeting was held in conjunction with the annual Equine Canada Conference which took place from January 24-31, 2011 at the Lord Elgin Hotel in Ottawa. The CQHA is an affiliate association of Equine Canada, through the Industry Division. The mandate of the CQHA, a national affiliate of the AQHA, is to address issues of concern to Canadian owners of American Quarter Horses; to be a communications vehicle for and with Canadian owners of American Quarter Horses; and to promote and market, both globally and within Canada, Canadian-bred
and/or Canadian-owned American Quarter Horses.
