Grandma's House of Hope receives the
CalOptima Safety Net Award!
Cal Optima is a public agency that provides health care coverage for children, low-income families, seniors and people with disabilities living in Orange County. In 2004, the CalOptima Board of Directors approved an award in Honor of Mary K. Dewane to recognize organizations whose accomplishments enhance access to quality health care services for vulnerable Orange County populations.
This year CalOptima has deemed Grandma's House of Hope a worthy agency for this award. Along with being recognized as an agency who identifies and cares for invisible populations in Orange County, GHH has received $25,000 to further it's life-saving programs - such as The Healing House.
Grandma's House is honored to be recognized in this way. We want to thank CalOptima for seeing a need for our services and supporting our mission.

In Loving Memory of Marta
GHH plants a Healing Garden
Behind the first Grandma's House location, affectionately deemed The Healing House, there is a now a garden appropriately named the Healing Garden. The garden was planted in honor of a charismatic client named Marta. Marta was faced with Breast Cancer and through a series of events was faced with homelessness at the same time. In September, 2011 after a doctor referred Marta to Grandma's House of Hope, her story changed. She was given an opportunity to live in a warm, loving environment surrounded by women who understand her struggle.
Marta was an inspiration to her fellow cancer survivors as well as to the staff and board of GHH. She never, ever gave up hope. When she could fight no longer, Marta received excellent hospice care on site at the Healing House. On September 16th, 2012 Marta peacefully passed on into the loving arms of our Savior. We will all miss her.
For a donation of $100 or more, Grandma's House of Hope will mail you a personal DVD of Marta's interview and place a commemorative stone in our
Healing Garden in your name
or the name of a loved one.

Connecting at the
United Way Agency Fair
In early August, United Way extended an invitation to GHH to a non-profit agency fair to be a held at a local UPS branch. We gladly accepted the opportunity to share the mission and vision of Grandma's House with more UPS employees.
We sent Nana's Kidz and HopeWorks! Program Director, Tobi Aclaro and PR & Communications VISTA Member, Emily Novick to this event. These ladies had a great time networking with other local, United Way funded non-profits as well as with the generous employees of UPS.
Events like this help Grandma's House gain exposure and supporters. We are thankful for the invitation.

Back to School
with GHH!
Grandma's House distributed 400 backpacks this Back to School season!
For most Orange County children Back-to-School is an exciting time to prepare for a new school year. Along with a new academic year comes new school clothes, backpacks and supplies. Unfortunately there are many youth in Orange County whose parents aren't financially able to provide them with the tools to start off a successful school year. To continue with tradition, GHH decided to partner with a few local non-profits to find out where the need was and to give backpacks filled with age appropriate school supplies to children in North Orange County.
GHH hosted one Back-to-School event and supported another, hosted by the Anaheim Collaboration to Assist Motel Families, with a backpack donation, craft booth and toothpaste giveaway.
GHH is proud to have been a part of providing for local youth in need and looks forward to continuing to be a safety net for uniquely challenged and under-served children in Orange County.
"I know that we succeeded in connecting families, at the start of school, with the resources the kids need for a successful start."
- Linda S. Russell LCSW
Liaison, Project HERO

Want to Help?
Ways to give to GHH in the coming months.
Sponsor a child!
Students who rely on the
free lunch program at school go hungry on the weekends! For just $35 a month you can sponsor a motel child to have
weekend meals when the
school cafeterias are closed.
Host a food drive!
GHH is always looking for an enthusiastic group to host a food drive. The food you collect feeds hungry children right here in Orange County.
Make welcome baskets!
Transitioning into our facilities can be a scary time for some women. Create welcome baskets to help our newest ladies feel loved and at home.
Collect gift cards!
We can always use gifts cards of all sorts (i.e. grocery stores, Starbucks, movie passes, etc.) to distribute during the holidays or as gifts to celebrate program milestones.
