It's no secret that many communities near Long Island Sound are leaking raw sewage into harbors and onto beaches. As we argued back in March, New York urgently needs more money to fix water pollution problems.

So why is New York State considering loaning $511 million from the federal Clean Water State Revolving Fund to replace the Tappan Zee Bridge?

The New York Times said the plan "clearly seems at odds with the revolving fund's historic mission." We agree--this funding should be used for urgent clean water needs, not diverted for an unrelated project. That's why we're joining with our colleagues at Riverkeeper, Environmental Advocates, NYPIRG and other environmental organizations in opposing this loan.

The state's Environmental Facilities Corporation is set to vote on the proposal TOMORROW, before the public and the EPA have had enough time to comment.

Please take a moment now to send a quick email to these decision-makers:

Matthew Driscoll, president and CEO, Environmental

  Facilities Corporation: matthew.driscoll@efc.ny.gov

Joe Martens, commissioner, NY Department of

  Environmental Conservation: jmartens@gw.dec.state.ny.us

Your email can be simple. Customize the message below, or write your own.

Dear Mr. Driscoll and Mr. Martens,

As a resident of ___, I'm very concerned to hear that the Environmental Facilities Corporation is considering diverting $511 million from the federal Clean Water State Revolving Fund to the Tappan Zee Bridge rebuild. I urge you to VOTE NO on this proposal. Towns across New York urgently need funding to stop sewage leaks that pollute our waters and make our beaches unsafe for swimming.

Sincerely,

[your name]

 Thank you!
