Happy Long Island Sound Day!
Our new Pledge empowers YOU to save the Sound.

What better way to celebrate Long Island Sound Day than by launching our new Long Island Sound Pledge?

The Long Island Sound Pledge is your guide to making a difference for the Sound. It has options as easy as calling your elected officials or keeping an eye out for sewer overflows, and as ambitious as building your own rain garden or giving a Save the Sound presentation for your neighbors. Just pick your action, sign up, and we'll follow up soon with all the information you need!

When local residents and communities are empowered to keep the beaches and rivers near them clean, we get a Long Island Sound that's healthier for everyone and safer for the wildlife that calls it home. We hope our Long Island Sound Pledge will inspire people across Connecticut to take action to stop pollution of our region's natural treasure.

Read more on our blog, then take the Pledge. The Sound thanks you!

More Long Island Sound News
  • We've just hired a director for our growing Western Long Island Sound program. Tracy Brown will be directing our New York work to stop bacterial pollution and heal the low-oxygen dead zone in the western Sound.
  • Tomorrow is World Fish Migration Day! We'll be at our fishway projects in Bridgeport and Wallingford to talk about the importance of removing barriers like dams that keep migratory fish from reaching their upstream habitats. Learn more--and find a fishway open house near you--here.
  • We'll also be at Bluff Point Beach in Groton tomorrow for a coastal cleanup organized by Ledyard High School students. The future of the Sound is in good hands!
  • Yesterday we held a public forum on sustainable fisheries at UConn-Avery Point. Experts and fishermen turned out for a lively conversation about the scientific, cultural, and policy aspects of rebuilding our nation's fisheries. You can see the highlights in our social media summary.
  • And check out our blog post about our great plant-a-thon in Bridgeport, where 70 volunteers came out to celebrate our completed fishway on the Pequonnock River and plant native shrubs and wildflowers to protect the riverbank and provide wildlife habitat.

Now get out on the beach and enjoy Long Island Sound!
