Celebrate Earth Day with CFE/Save the Sound!

Happy Earth Day!
Its' a busy week for CFE/Save the Sound! Here are just a few of the things we're doing this week to heal and protect the healthy air, clean water, and threatened wildlife habitats we all care so much about. You can find more details on our blog.
- On Friday, Save the Sound hosts the 23rd Annual Long Island Sound Citizens Summit in New Rochelle, NY, gathering people from across the region to learn about the Sound's past and set goals for its future.
- 1,000 pristine acres of Old Saybrook's coastal forest known as The Preserve will be discussed at a public forum on Friday evening. Come find out how you can get involved in its permanent protection.
- Regulations on siting new wind turbines in Connecticut will be discussed by the state legislature today. We're urging the Regulations Review Committee to accept the new guidelines and stop Connecticut from being the only state with a moratorium on new wind power.
- Save the Sound will be in Mystic today to give public comment about protecting fish crucial to the Sound's ecosystem at the New England Fishery Management Council meeting.
- We'll be attending DEEP's "see and drive" event with electric vehicles at Bushnell Park in Hartford at lunchtime today. Come along to try an EV out yourself!
- Wednesday's "Transit Roundtable" in Waterbury will put a face on mobility needs like getting to jobs, medical appointments, college classes, and the grocery store that can be hard without a car, and talk about what Connecticut is doing to improve bus service across the state.
We'll hope to see you at one of these events--invite your friends!

What Else Can I Do?
There's a lot you can do to help the environment every day, not just on Earth Day. Here are three of our favorite tips from DEEP--things you can start doing right now:
- Idling is "fuelish!" Connecticut law prohibits idling a vehicle for more than three minutes. Turning off the engine keeps our air clean and healthy.
- Kick the bottled water habit to the curb. Buy a reusable bottle and fill it with clean and healthy tap water.
- Green your lawn care! Collect rain water and use the water on your garden and lawn, or if you're feeling more ambitious, plant a rain garden to collect runoff from your roof and driveway. Clean up your dog's waste, which can contaminate our drinking water. And learn more about organic lawn care techniques.
