Our Report Card: Are New York's Sewage Plants Making the Grade?

To Our Friends in Westchester County:

Save the Sound released a report card and interactive map today tracking upgrades at New York's sewage treatment plants around Long Island Sound.

Called "Healing the Sound's Dead Zone: Are New York's Sewage Treatment Plants Making the Grade?," the report card gives Westchester County a B for having made good progress, but notes that it's still "at risk" because there's more work yet to be done to meet the 2017 deadline. New York City received the same grade, while Nassau and Suffolk counties and Connecticut received As.

We invite you to read the news release and click on the links to the report and the map.

The story has already been picked up by the Journal News. You can read it here.

Our hope is that this report card helps keep Westchester County on track and serves to remind residents of the importance of investing in the infrastructure that protects our water. We ask you to contact your county representatives to let them know you support the continued cleanup of Long Island Sound.
