Toxic Fracking Waste:
Where do your state legislators stand?

Hazardous Waste Storage sign The Connecticut legislature is considering two bills about fracking waste, but only one can adequately protect our waters. Ask your legislators to back SB 237, the ban on fracking waste.

Used fracking waste is highly toxic--there is no known safe way to dispose of it. Some state leaders want to try to regulate and treat it here in Connecticut, but that approach could still leave our waters and public health at risk.

Please call your state senator and representative today and ask that they support and co-sponsor SB 237, because only a full ban can protect Long Island Sound and our groundwater!

If you're calling during business hours, just dial these switchboards and ask to be connected to your legislators by name:

          Senate Democrats: 800-842-1420

          Senate Republicans: 800-842-1421

          House Democrats: 800-842-8267

          House Republicans: 800-842-1423

Or you can look them up on the CGA website or at votesmart.org and call their offices directly.

You'll reach an aide or an answering machine. Just say you're a constituent and where you live, your name and any business or organizational affiliation that might give your comments more weight, and ask that the legislator support and co-sponsor SB 237 to protect us, our health, and our resources from toxic waste! If your legislator is already a co-sponsor, say thank you and ask them to keep up their support!

Who's co-sponsoring the bill?

As of this writing, a bi-partisan group of two senators and 24 representatives are co-sponsoring. You can see the full list here (scroll down). The more co-sponsors, the better the bill's chances!

Why call now?

There's a risk that this good bill could be replaced with weaker language that aims to regulate fracking waste and could eventually let it be discharged into our rivers and Long Island Sound. While perhaps well intentioned, this approach will not sufficiently protect Connecticut. Read our testimony on SB 237 to learn more about why a ban is the better choice.

We need you to tell your legislators that they must stay strong on SB 237, the statewide ban on fracking waste. Thank you!
