Year in Review
CFE/Save the Sound looks back at 2013's victories

What do seals on Plum Island, 400 kids, and migrating fish have in common? They all benefited from our work last year!

CFE and its program Save the Sound achieved some great things in 2013. Among many other projects, we:
  • Fought alongside both grassroots supporters and U.S. senators to protect Plum Island in New York, and partnered with state leaders and fellow conservation groups to get protection for thousands of acres of forest and coastal habitat at The Preserve and across Connecticut
  • Educated over 400 kids about the ecology of the western Sound
  • Installed a new fishway on the Pequonnock River that lets fish migrate upstream safely to spawn
  • Helped secure $1 billion in Clean Water Funding to help Connecticut towns pay for much-needed sewer upgrades and launched water quality testing in Mamaroneck that helped get two pollution sites fixed
  • Cleaned our air by working with lawmakers to improve Connecticut's energy strategy and defend the renewable energy standard
  • Rallied more than 2,400 volunteers to build rain gardens in Southington and clean up eight tons of trash from beaches

We're looking forward to working with you on all the new and ongoing projects 2014 will bring, from protecting our lands to cleaning our air to enjoying our waters!
