ERIC HUNT:
Too Young for
Two Attacks

" The ER and cardiology teams
were so amazing."

Eric Hunt is a devoted husband, father of two young children, a two-time heart attack survivor;

Eric Hunt is only 40 years old.

Two years ago, Hunt had his first heart attack after playing basketball with friends. After the game, he felt unusually tired but attributed it to being out of shape.

When he woke up the next morning, he began to experience shortness of breath and a slight pressure in his chest, which Hunt blew off.

Henry Mayo ED Exceeds Patient Safety Measures

Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital voluntarily met-and exceeded-best in class Emergency Department (ED) patient safety metrics set forth by BETA Healthcare Group (BETA), the largest insurer of hospital professional liability coverage in California.

To achieve this goal, all ED patient care providers completed rigorous online education and ED test scenarios. Successful completion of the Quest for Zero: Excellence in ED preventable errors initiative earned Henry Mayo statewide recognition for its dedication to raising the bar for patient safety.

Henry Mayo's 14 full-time ED physicians-the Santa Clarita Emergency Medical Group--participated in this annual ED Patient Safety Initiative as part of its commitment to deliver safe, high quality care to patients. The Initiative includes 12 hours of eLearning focused on key diagnostic and treatment areas often associated with high risk and hard-to-diagnose cases. Exceeding expectations, Henry Mayo's group of ED physicians completed two years of education in one year, and also completed the second tier of the Initiative, becoming one of only two medical groups in the state to achieve these requirements.

Honor Your Physician: Doctors' Day is March 30, 2013

In observance of National Doctors Day on March 30, and in recognition of their commitment to providing excellent care, each year Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital invites physicians to a special Doctors Day meal and presents them with commemorative gifts. Henry Mayo's physicians are dedicated to saving lives and improving the health and quality of life for the Santa Clarita Valley community. The holiday was officially signed into U.S. law in the early 1990s by President George Bush. The date of March 30 was chosen to celebrate Doctors' Day because it is the anniversary of the day that anesthesia was first administered to a patient in 1842.

Henry Mayo offers a special opportunity for individuals to honor their physicians by making a donation in a doctor's name. Your contribution will help ensure that patients in the SCV continue to have access to comprehensive, state-of-the-art health care services, and the best facilities in which to work.

In recognition of your donation, the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation will send a special note of appreciation informing your physician that you have made a Doctors Day gift in his or her honor and present them with a custom-crafted Healthcare Hero pin. If you would like to honor your physician with a contribution, please visit henrymayogiving.com or call (661)200-1201.

Henry Mayo's Donations Benefit Hurricane Sandy Victims

Henry Mayo employees gave$3,674.81 in PTO donations and $550 in monetary donations-- which was matched by the hospital for a grand total of $8,449.62-- to the Hurricane Sandy Fund. The funds will benefit employees of hospitals and other healthcare organizations in affected communities who suffered serious personal losses due to Hurricane Sandy, one of the largest and most devastating hurricanes on record. The storm's victims include members of our hospital family who worked tirelessly to evacuate patients and tend to the sick, putting the health and wellness of others above their own.
