Join outdoors journalist James Mills for an illustrated talk about making wilderness recreation more inclusive, inspired by his book about the first all-African American team of climbers to take on Denali. Mills has solo summited Mount Whitney and was just named a Yosemite Centennial Ambassador. Read more.

Book Sale: April 9 & 10
Book lovers: shop for a good cause at the Friends of Eugene Public Library's giant annual Book Sale at Lane Events Center (Fairgrounds) on Sat., April 9, 9:00 - 6:00 and Sun., April 10, 10:00 - 4:00. On April 9, Eliot Treichel (shown) discusses his novel for teens and adults, A Series of Small Maneuvers, about grief, family, and the healing power of nature. Lynn Ash's Vagabonda shares tales of solo camping in the West on April 16. On April 20, Bill Sullivan presents an illustrated talk about Oregon Coast hikes, featuring new trails he sought out for the latest edition of his 100 Hikes series.

That's April 10 - 16. Of course, Eugeneans celebrate year-round, voting last fall to expand library services. We're getting ready to provide more open hours, events, and technology starting July 1, including hiring new staff. "Maker" tech and arts activities are ramping up at your Library this spring! Downtown: check out the new Maker Hub, including Open Labs and Media Lab, or sign up to learn about 3D scanning, digital drawing, or InDesignAnd especially for teens: Use an Art Robot. Also this month, all locations offer Box of Books crafts workshops, plus Easy Circuitry at Sheldon Branch.

This year's bilingual family celebration of children and books features Angel Ocasio's "komedy 4 da kidz" show, live music, dancing, arts and crafts, book giveaways, library card sign-ups, snacks, and more! Join in the fun at Springfield Public Library on Sat., April 30 or Eugene Public Library on Sun., May 1.
