Torishima Pump to provide pumps for the LADWP Scattergood Repowering Project

The Scattergood Generating Station Repowering Project will replace the existing Unit 3 with an efficient combined-cycle (natural gas and steam) turbine and two simple-cycle turbines.  Both the combined-cycle and the simple-cycle turbines have fast-start and ramp-up capabilities for short-term increases in electrical demand and more flexible integration of renewable energy.  The $950 million project at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power's 830-MW  Generating Station will also reduce the amount of ocean water needed to cool the plant.  The Scattergood Unit 3 Repowering Project promises a clean energy future for Los Angeles through improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and the protection of local marine habitats thanks to modern, new technology that does not require the use of ocean water cooling, say LADWP officials. Torishima Pump will be providing condensate extraction can pumps for the project.

Torishima Pump to supply pumps for the Queen Elizabeth Combined Cycle Repowering Project

Alberici, in a joint venture with Burns & McDonnell, is providing engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCm) services for SaskPower at the Queen Elizabeth Power Station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  The project involves the conversion of three of the plant's existing gas turbine generators into combined cycle operation; a process that greatly reduces plant emissions by using waste heat to generate electricity rather than venting it into the atmosphere.  Major equipment additions include three natural gas turbine generators, one steam turbine, six once-through steam generators, and two step-up transformers.   Upon completion in 2015, the new units will emit half the carbon dioxide of coal-fired generators and add an additional 200 megawatts of net electrical production.  Torishima Pump is contracted to supply boiler feed and condensate can pumps on the project.
