Featured left to right are outgoing Chairperson Nina Coolidge, TDC President Paul A. Grasso, Jr., and incoming Chairperson Theodore Luck

On January 30, 2014 The Development Corporation voted to elect a new slate of officers. At the meeting, outgoing Chairperson Nina Coolidge said,  " My thanks for your support, generosity of time and participating in major decisions.  Each of you brings a special talent to this Board. The Development Corporation would not be where it is today if it was not for you and the part that each of you give to a team effort...Clinton County and the area are growing and jobs are being created. Much of this is thanks to each of you in this room."

STARTUP-NY Program Puts Business in a New York State of Mind
By Shirar Mugler

2014 has all eyes on New York and the wide-sweeping economic initiatives Gov. Andrew Cuomo has put in place to attract inward investment to the Empire State. Perceptions are being shifted as New York unveils its business-friendly tax reforms and offers up its groundbreaking STARTUP-NY incentive program to companies establishing new operations and facilities.

In a nutshell, this is not the New York of decades past. Cuomo's New York is one that offers companies a competitive, cost-effective environment that has all of the usual advantages New York has to offer: infrastructure, world-class work force, excellent education system, easy access to markets, established supply chains, and the something-for-everybody environment that companies have come to expect from New YorkRead more
TDC beyond the headlines

Ribbon cutting and ground-breaking ceremonies are very exciting and certainly get the attention of the press. However, at TDC our mission - to foster an environment that creates and retains quality jobs and investments in the community through strategic partnerships, innovation and development of superior sites and facilities - means that we do a lot of work behind the scenes - including providing partnership support to raise the level of consciousness about economic development opportunities, best practices and supporting an array of worthy workforce development initiatives.

Here are some examples of the types of initiatives that TDC was involved with in 2013 which you probably didn't read about on the front page of the business section. Click here to see TDC's year end review for 2013

TDC provides warehouse space for 'Snowball'
Snowball 2014
The Snowball Collaboration is a group of local nonprofits and businesses who are embracing the wonder and opportunities of winter in the North Country.  Each Saturday during the entire month of February, children and their families will had the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities. Very icy outdoor conditions forced the group to look for alternate locations for their obstacle course - one of the most popular events from last year. TDC's building #19 on Military Turnpike turned out to be a perfect substitute for the out of doors and TDC was happy to donate the warehouse space for the entire month. Programs may be obstacles to work
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) recently editorialized about what happened to North Carolina's unemployment rate subsequent to the state legislature's decision in July not to extend state unemployment benefits. Read more

Title IX had huge impact
The year 1972 was memorable for many things, good and bad. HBO was launched, the motion pictures The Godfather and Dirty Harry were released, the last combat troops were leaving Vietnam, Arab gunmen massacred 11 Israeli athletes at the Olympic Games, and the Watergate break-in occurred.
