MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF SCHOOL
|
We Are Expanding and Building!
Breaking news! The Board of Trustees has recently authorized the addition of six new classrooms to be constructed on campus this summer. Enrollment projections for next fall predict an increase of 25 students, similar to last year, meaning we will have grown by more than 20% in just two years, exactly the goal the board has established for our rate of growth. Our five year plan calls for growing from last year's 240, to a combined 325 (250 RHP, 75 Renaissance) by 2019. This fall we will open at approximately 280.
Housed in three new modular buildings, the new classrooms will allow us to accommodate next year's growth and most or all of the subsequent planned growth, at the same time as keeping teaching class sizes smaller than 20 (we broke that barrier with some 9th grade classes this year and do not wish to have to do so again). Most importantly, a slightly larger enrollment allows us to enhance program. Next year, for instance, we are already planning to add Computer Science, AP Art History, Media Literacy, and Mandarin II Honors. I am spending this weekend interviewing early candidates for positions in various disciplines.

| | Two of our New Classroom Buildings Will Be Constructed on the Field Behind Renaissance. |
One of the buildings will be located in the area currently occupied by the picnic tables, and will house two arts classrooms and an area for a kiln and display of artwork. We will relocate the tables to other shaded areas. The other two buildings (four classrooms) will be built behind the current Renaissance rooms, at the school end of the fields, still leaving plenty of room for our middle school soccer games. These rooms will initially be set up for two standard classrooms and provide space for a further two in the future. The finance committee of the board negotiated some significant savings in constructing all three buildings at once rather than waiting another year until we actually need the third.
Exciting times as we continue to enhance program and facilities on campus!
Peter

SUPPORT THE COSTA RICA SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT
|
On March 28th, students from Rolling Hills Preparatory and Renaissance Schools will embark on a service learning trip for ten days, in conjunction with World Leadership School, to the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Eighteen of us are raising money to work on a Community Project that will be designed in consultation with the needs and desires of the Dos Brazos de Rio Tigre citizens.
It is our hope this trip will redefine service as:
- establishing a partnership instead of just donating money.
- understanding the importance of political and financial situations that impact a community.
- being respectful of and participating in different cultures.
- connecting on a personal level and listening to people of this community.
Your donation will directly impact this community. We appreciate your consideration to donate towards our project.

Hello everyone, I am Tyber Longacre. I am 17 years old, and have grown up in Hermosa and Redondo beach for my entire life. My family has moved five times, and I have attended five different schools since preschool, yet somehow I ended up at Rolling Hills Prep and Ren. To most of my Hermosa friends, RHP was some secluded prep school up on the hill. However, the knowledge I've gained here has made me realize that it was definitely the best place for me to spend my last few years in order to pursue my goals in life...

SENIOR SPEECH: MATTHEW H.
|
Senior Speech today, Senior game tomorrow, college acceptances in March, senior prom soon after, and next thing I know it's going to be graduation and then I'm getting ready to leave for college. It felt like it was just a few days ago that it was my first day of high school, Today I still feel like I'm still that kid who doesn't feel like college is relevant enough to prepare for, school is a waste of time, and fitting in is my only goal. And now all of these responsibilities are coming out of nowhere and somehow I'm managing to keep my life together. There are times where I look back to my freshman year and reflect on how lazy, unmotivated, and immature I was compared to who I am now. Then I realize, dang... I'm old...
