Get Your PHX Family Thanksgiving

The goal of Get Your PHX is to show up, en masse, to support those who pioneer new restaurants, stores, bars and event spaces. We want to provide them a boost as they put their sweat, tears and wealth on the line to make life great downtown. Plus, we want to provide a chance for you to meet others like you, who want to get the most out of Phoenix.
Thank you again to Amber Harrold of Camelbackpackers Hostel. Amber and her family put out an incredible spread for us, including local craft beer, wine and even camel-shaped cookies. If she went to those lengths for us, you can feel good recommending your friends to say at CamelbackPackers Hostel when they come through town.
As we roll in to the cooler weather we start to think about family and all of the holidays centered on spending time together.
This month, please join us for our first annual Get Your PHX Family Thanksgiving. You've all been so supportive of Get Your PHX and Cenpho businesses for so long that you really are part of the family.
So, before you head off for your "other" family dinners in late November, please join your Get Your PHX family for one special thanksgiving meal.
Hob Nobs owners Bob and Sharilyn are preparing a very warm reception for us. In addition to their regular, vast menu of goodies, Hob Nobs is offering a Thanksgiving Sandwich special for just $10 -that's a turkey and cranberry sandwich and a drink. In addition, they are offering a $1.99 craft bottle of beer, to be announced.
Hob Nobs is also organizing for their most popular musical act, DirtMusic, to entertain us for Get Your PHX. This band has travelled around the world to play its mix of alternative blues and bluegrass. You don't want to miss this.
And, of course, I will be hosting the monthly raffle. Don't miss out.
Your PHX family misses you!

Get Ready. Phoestivus is On!
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TWO-NIGHT EVENT. DEC. 5TH AND 12.
RSVP at Facebook here.
Friends, it is official. Phoestivus is on, and bigger than ever. Not only will we have over 50 vendors. Not only will we have at least 6 food trucks. Not only will we have feats of strength, an airing of grievances and the worlds largest Phoestivus pole (as far as you know).
Not only that, friends. But this:
We will have a Phoestivus beer garden sponsored by the Phoenix Ale Brewery.
But, wait. There's more!
Phoenix Ale Brewery is brewing a special seasonal ale just for us.
Yes. That's right. It will be called PHOESTIVUS ALE!
(Don't be jealous.)
And why do we do this, friends? Why have 180 Degree Automotive, Cenpho.com, Core Crossfit, The Crescent Ballroom, Downtown Phoenix Partnership, the Downtown Voices Coalition, FM Solutions, REALTOR Ken Clark, Local First, New Times, Oasis on Grand and Yelp all joined Get Your PHX to co-sponsor this event?
We have come together to support Community Food Connections, the very folks who bring you the bi-weekly open air market in downtown Phoenix. The market has become our town center and we want it to thrive.
10% of what you spend at Phoestivus on goods and 100% of the proceeds from the beer garden will go to support Community Food Connections.
Put these dates on your calendar. If you are vendor, go to www.phoestivus.com to learn how you can participate.
And most of all, don't miss it!

In Other Market News...
In Summary I am hosting an invite-only PHX Market Briefing on November 13th at 6pm. As you know, I'm a total data geek when it comes to real estate. The data tells so much about what we can expect in the near future in the housing market. However, the media consistently get it wrong. Its maddening, actually.
Recently, I saw market analysis that was so eye-opening that I wanted to share it with my friends and clients. I saw incredibly accurate ways to predict where prices will be in 60 days and where the market will be in a year. I want you to see this stuff.
I've created an hour-long presentation (with food and beverages) so you can see what few people outside the real estate industry get to see.
I'm not trying to trap you in a room and give you a sales pitch. Y'all already know I'm a realtor.
Rather, this is an event that will be a valuable source of information for you, whether you are buying for yourself, investing, selling or just curious to see where the market has gone since you last bought or sold.
I will be featuring data shared with me by real estate market guru, Mike Orr. I have also invited lending market specialist Jeannie Bolger, title specialists from Old Republic Title and my two favorite real estate attorneys who can answer questions of any kind.
If you would like to attend, please RSVP by November 6th to ken@getyourphx.com or call me at 602-561-5881. If you would like to invite a friend, please check with me first.
The location is TBA until we get a better head count. Articles monOrchid Spaces Up for Grabs The folks at Co+Hoots have been temporarily working out of monOrchid for a few months while their new office digs are finished. We've had a great time together, but as they leave there will be a few coveted spaces open around here. This is a great place to work. I should know, I work here. We have Songbird Coffee House right here, inexpensive collaborative office space, access to specialists in all fields and other amenities. Check out this link to see what is coming open soon and the price list for the spaces. Download the new PDF price sheet here. |

Notes on 2012 Election and the Ballot Initiatives
If you missed it last month, I did a summary how I'm voting on candidates and ballot initiatives. Here is a shorter version, just covering races I'll be able to vote in.
In the end, of course, the most important thing is that you vote.
In a huge upset to the GOP, Richard Carmona could be our next federal senator if people turn out to vote. Be sure to check out his biography.
Check out Paul Penzone for sheriff and Heather Macre for Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board to see two likely upsets to the ol' apple cart.
Read up on the facts of the Corporation Commission race. The Corp. Comm. sounds vague, but it determines whether we have a clean solar energy future or continued pollution and global warming.
Prop 115: Judicial Selection - Referendum, Constitutional Amendment.
I'm voting a resounding NO on this one.
Prop 120: State Sovereignty - Referendum, Constitutional Amendment
I'm voting NO on this one and I'm shaking my head in disbelief that this is even on the ballot.
Prop 121: Open Government Act - Citizen's Initiative, Constitutional Amendment.
I'm voting YES on this with a hearty "meh."
Prop 204: Quality Education and Jobs Act - Citizen's Initiative, State Statute
I will hold my nose and vote yes for this.
Final Report: Greening Lower Grand
Read here about how the City's Greening Lower Grand project mentions the possibility of street cars on Grand Ave. I am on the board of the Grand Avenue Rail Project. We are advocating for the re-installation of historic trolley cars on Grand Ave. as a historic preservation and economic development issue. Learn more here.
The Biltmore Union Opens 18 Local Stores
Right before the holiday season and Phoenix's peak months for tourism, Union at the Biltmore, located on the east end of Biltmore Fashion Park will open 7,200 square feet of retail space in an exciting effort to highlight the mix or "union" of national shops with 18 one-of-a-kind small retailers from the local Phoenix community. Learn more at the link, above.
Shifting to a Credit Union, Part 1 of 5
I saw a movie recently ("Heist: Who Stole the American Dream?"), which featured our own Kimber Lanning, Local First Arizona's founder and director since its inception. We got to talking about why it's important to consider moving to a credit union as your bank of choice. For years, I had been thinking about the prospect of closing my "big bank" accounts and opening an account at a local credit union. Check out this, the first in a series which will report on the ins and outs of making the big shift to a local credit union from one of the big banks.
