| LET US HELP YOU RESOLVE TO BE HEALTHIER | | |
A resolution is a promise you make to yourself, but did you know that it is estimated that out of the 45% of people who routinely make New Years resolutions, only 8% are successful in achieving them? Here are the top most commonly broken resolutions:
- lose weight/get fit
- learn something new
- eat healthier and diet
- get out of debt/save money
- spend more time with family
- volunteer
- be less stressed
We make keeping that promise easy! This January, all new members who join the Y will pay no joining fee, and if you refer a member you will receive a free month of membership for each member referral. Look for guest passes at the Welcome Center. PDF
Our many fitness programs and opportunities help you lose weight and get fit, as well as learn new fitness skills! Make an appointment with our Exercise Physiologist on January 14th or 21st to learn more about healthy living. Look for special programs we offer about financial planning and special programs for families. And we always have plenty of volunteer opportunities. All of these can lead to a less stressful and more productive life, and a healthier 2014! Make sure to tell your neighbors and friends. |
| YOU CAN LOSE TO WIN | | |
Now that the holidays are over, it's time to start working on those New Years resolutions! If losing weight is one of them, then be sure to join our Lose to Win weight loss challenge. This life-changing program includes educational weight loss, nutrition and exercise lectures, periodic motivational challenges, as well and group training sessions with a certified personal trainer.
The session is January 27 through April 4 with a cost of $75 for members and $125 for non-members. Register at the Welcome Center from January 2 - January 27. There are limited slots available so don't miss out on this great opportunity!

| KEKOKA POLAR PLUNGE FUNDRAISER! | | |
Looking for a new way to start off the New Year with
A splash? Then join the Camp Kekoka staff on January 11, 2014, for our 4th annual Polar Bear Plunge at Camp Kekoka! This unlikely event has Brave participants of all ages plunging into the frigid
Waters of Indian Creek to raise money for the Guardian Program, a scholarship fund which ensures every child gets to experience Camp Kekoka regardless of their ability to pay. What better way to start off the New Year than by jumping into the freezing creek to give a kid a Camp K week?!
Plungers and sponsors are invited to warm up afterward with hot soup, hot chocolate, and other assorted goodies.

| AFTER THE HOLIDAYS RECIPE | | |
The holidays may be over, but just in case you still have some leftover turkey or ham, here is a recipe that makes a great side dish!
After the Holidays Cranberry Salad
1 bag cranberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped black walnuts
1 (3 oz) pkg lemon jello
(To make this healthier, you may use Splenda instead of sugar and low-sugar jello)
Pick over the cranberries and remove any bruised or damaged ones. Place in food processor and pulse four or five times to chop. Pour into bowl and add sugar. Mix well and set aside. Prepare lemon jello according to package instructions, using 1 cup boiling water and 1/2 cup cold water. Refrigerate until it begins to thicken.
When jello is slightly thick, add cranberry mixture, celery and nuts and pour into lightly oiled gelatin mold. Refrigerate until firm. |
