MEET SANTA AND HIS ELVES!
'Tis the season for family fun at the Victory Family YMCA!  On Saturday, December 14th, pack up the kids and join Santa starting at 9:00 a.m. in our gymnasium.  Children may have their pictures taken with Santa and enjoy breakfast with their families.  This event is free for all YMCA members but you do need to register at the Welcome Center by Friday, December 13th.  Don't forget to bring one unopened toy per child to help with our Giving Tree!

And after breakfast you may leave the children with us and enjoy a few hours out shopping.  The fun continues with lots of activities, games and crafts from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.  Lunch is provided, as well!  There is a small charge for this event  ($15 for members and $20 for program participants.) Pease sign up at the Welcome Center.

MAKING THE HOLIDAYS HAPPY FOR OTHERS

Giving Tree

While you are shopping for friends and family this season, take the time to stop by our Giving Tree and make this Christmas special for a child in need.  Just grab a tag, either for clothing or toys, and register at the Welcome Center. Then bring your unwrapped gift and the gift tag back to the Welcome Center.  The children who receive these gifts are from the York County and Poquoson area.

Can't think of something for that person who has everything? How about donating to the Giving Tree in their name!

See the Welcome Center for details.

Coats for Kids

Help make this a warmer winter for someone.  The Victory Y is collecting gently-used coats of all sizes to distribute to local families. Coats will be distributed beginning December 14.

HEALTHY HAPPY HOLIDAY EATING
Lower your cooking stress

Ten Tips to help make your holiday meal less stressful:

  1. Limit the number of foods you prepare.
  2. Perishable foods may be prepared up to one day in advance.
  3. Assemble vegetable casseroles the day before.
  4. Cut up veggies in advance for a vegetable tray, store covered.
  5. Sprinkle cut fruit with citrus juice to keep fresh (wait until day of meal to cut bananas.)
  6. Purchase raw meat no sooner than 1 to 2 days in advance, store on bottom shelf of fridge.
  7. Baked goods can be prepared several days in advance
  8. Pie crusts may be made and frozen ahead.
  9. Consider making a frozen pie, such as pumpkin ice cream pie, which can be made well in advance of the meal.
  10. Set your table the day before.
