At the Y, we are continually working to improve your experience as members while running a fiscally responsible organization. To that end, you may have noticed some recent changes to our schedules; we hope you find the larger print and style easier to read so you can find your favorite classes more quickly.

In this electronic age, we decided it is time we take full advantage of the lower cost of delivering YMCA program information to you. In the past we have mailed the Program Guide and Schedules directly to your home. Now you will find them on your home-branch YMCA's web page under the Schedules Section and, if you still like the convenience of a printed copy, you can pick up a printed copy of your Y Schedules at your YMCA's Welcome Center. Please let us know how this works for you by taking our poll.

More exciting changes are coming! We are developing a new website that will be mobile-device friendly. The new site also takes advantage of technology that makes it quicker and easier to find classes and register for Y programs.

Bright Beginnings is a YMCA collaboration that provides

new clothes and school supplies to children in need in our community. 

This program helps children have a great start in school by giving them the confidence and the tools they need to learn.

Bright Beginnings embodies YMCA values by building strong kids (self esteem with new supplies and clothing), strong families (easing a financial burden) and strong communities (providing opportunity for people to volunteer their time for the children, as well as giving the children a sense of belonging to a community that cares about them).

Volunteers are needed to sponsor a child or to help a child shop for supplies.  Shopping dates are August 26 at 5:30 PM- 8:00 PM; and August 27, 28 and 29 at 7:30 AM-10:30 AM at Kohls in Newport News. Training date for volunteers is Tuesday, August 20, at 6:00 PM in the multipurpose room. Sign up at the Welcome Center to help with this worthwhile cause.

Want to clean out your children's closets, make money, and support a great cause?  Sell your children's clothing, toys, books, furniture and equipment at the Victory Family YMCA Kids' Consignment Sale!

The semi-annual Kids' Consignment Sale is Saturday, September 14, from 7:00 a.m.- 11:00 p.m. and the half-price sale is the same day from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. 

Registration for consignors is from August 1-September 8.

We sell quality children's clothing (infant - size 12), children's shoes, toys, games, books, furniture, baby equipment, youth/teen clothing and maternity wear.  Consignors earn 60%, and all proceeds benefit the Victory YMCA Strong Communities Campaign, our giving program for families in need.

We have a great need for volunteers to make this event successful.  Volunteer opportunities include sale organization and set up, sales floor, check out assistant, sale clean up and break down. Volunteers get to shop the "preview sale" on Friday, September 13!

Masters Swimmers

Congratulations are in order for Y Masters swimmers Jorge Cortina and Derek Raulierson who recently participated in the Pan American games in Sarasota, Florida.  Jorge broke the 9-year Virginia LMSC (Local Masters Swim Committee) free record in the 50-54 LCM (long course meet) 100!

Volunteers Needed
