FIGHTING OBESITY IN ADULTS AND CHILDREN
| |
As the obesity epidemic continues to intensify, the Victory Family YMCA is working harder to combat it and help families in our community get healthy and stay healthy!
LOSE TO WIN
The YMCA is taking steps to help adults and children alike combat the ever growing problem of obesity. The Victory Family YMCA's "Lose to Win" weight loss challenge is based off the popular television series "The Biggest Loser." Participants of this life-changing program experience educational lectures that cover weight loss, nutrition, and exercise. "The first step to overcoming obesity, is to understand it, which is why the educational piece of this program is so important," says Michael Hildebrand, certified personal trainer and "Lose to Win" instructor. In addition to the the education, there are also motivational challenges as well as group-training sessions with a certified personal trainer. Much like the TV series, there are prizes for the winners of "Lose to Win" - those who lose the biggest percentage of body weight.
TRIM KIDS
Adults are not the only ones who sometimes need help staying healthy. If your child needs help with eating right, exercising, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, then "Trim Kids" may be the right solution. This 8-week program teaches nutrition, exercise, and behavior education. It introduces parents and children to a lifetime of weight-management skills.
For more information on these and other programs, please contact Franki Pivarnik at fpivarnik@peninsulaymca.org.

| LOVE YOUR Y | | |
Did you know the YMCA is a charitable non-profit organization, led by volunteers?
Not only are are we led by a Board of Directors, but we are highly dependent on volunteers to help with our programs and daily operations at the YMCA.
One of the best ways to "Love Your Y" is to help us give back by volunteering! We need volunteers in areas such as Administrative Work, Child Watch, Youth Watch, Wellness, Facilities, Membership, Teens, Aquatics, and Special Programs. We also have one-time volunteer opportunities available for events such as such as Healthy Kids Day, Fall Festival, Kids' Consignment Sale, Breakfast with Santa, and Bright Beginnings.
If you are interested in volunteering with the YMCA or learning more about the volunteer opportunities available, you can register to attend a "Volunteer Orientation." Just stop by the YMCA to sign up or register on our website. For more information, please contact Allison Brown abrown@peninsulaymca.org or 757 867 3300 ext. 230.
